What If It All Works Out?

September 25, 2025

I don’t know about you, but my brain can be really dramatic sometimes.

I’ll be washing dishes or lying in bed, and suddenly I’m five steps deep into a full-on disaster story. What if this falls apart? What if I embarrass myself? What if I’m not good enough?

And if that isn’t enough, comparison sneaks in. Look at her… she’s already doing it better. He started later but somehow passed me by. Why should I even try?

Sound familiar?

It’s like our brains are programmed with two favorite channels: Worst-Case Scenario News and Comparison Central. Neither one makes us feel any better.

The Spiral We All Know Too Well

Here’s what usually happens for me:

  • I have an idea or feel excited about something.
  • My brain pipes up with every possible thing that could go wrong.
  • Then I open Instagram (big mistake) and see someone doing something similar — but shinier, fancier, more put-together.
  • Suddenly I’m questioning everything.

And just like that, I’ve talked myself out of even trying.

The Question That Changes Everything

Mel Robbins knew I needed a mental shift. When I popped onto the ‘Gram (is that the cool thing to say? According to my 15 year old it definitely isn’t! Haha!! But I digress!), I literally felt like this question was written for me. If you haven’t seen or heard this before, I’m so excited to share it with you because maybe it is the mental clarity-cut through the BS that you need too.

So here is it: Let’s ask a better question:

✨ “What if it all works out?”

Not “what if I fail” or “what if they’re better.” Just: what if it actually goes right?

That tiny shift opened up space in my mind to allow the possibilities in. Instead of panic, I felt a flicker of hope. Instead of comparison, I paused and told myself, I’m not there yet. Yet might be the single most powerful tool in our tool boxes when it comes to dreaming and designing our lives because it gives us permission to keep going and not be discouraged by wherever we are on our journey.

Action > Overthinking

The other thing I’ve learned? I don’t need to figure it all out before I move. The fastest way out of the spiral is the smallest action. One action packed decision before my brain talks me out of it.

Send the text. Write the first sentence. Go for the walk. Share the idea.

It doesn’t have to be big or polished. Just moving forward whispers to our brains: See? We can do this. Too many times in my life I have fallen (or dove head first!) into the comparison/perfectionist trap. I’ve looked around at what everyone else is doing and I immediately discredit myself. Or I want to wait for that moment when I have everything packaged up perfectly. But life doesn’t work like that. Perfection keeps us stuck. Momentum, one tiny step at a time, is the only way out.

My Reminder to You (and Me)

I’ve wasted too much time in the land of “what if it goes wrong” and “she’s already ahead.” And honestly? Most of the scary things never happened. Let me repeat that…most of the scary things didn’t happen.

More often than not, things worked out better than I imagined. And when they didn’t, I still grew, still learned, still found joy in the process.

So if you need this reminder today — you’re not behind, you’re not too late, and you don’t need to live in worst-case mode.

Pause. Breathe. And ask yourself:

💡 “But what if it all works out?”

Because friend, it just might. Cheering you on!

Wishing my Dad the sweetest Heavenly Birthday today.

We love you, Pop, today, tomorrow and always.

With Love, Jen
