🌿 The Power of Resiliency: Rising Strong When Life Knocks You Down

September 16, 2025

There’s a moment we all face when life doesn’t go the way we planned. Maybe it was a dream that crumbled, a relationship that ended, or a season where everything felt like too much. I’ve been there too—standing in the middle of the mess, unsure of how to keep going. That’s where resiliency shows up.

Resiliency isn’t about pretending the hard things don’t hurt. It’s about acknowledging the pain and then choosing—sometimes quietly, sometimes shakily—to get back up and take the next step forward.

What Resiliency Really Means

At its core, resiliency is about bouncing back, but it’s also about becoming. Each challenge shapes us, chisels us, and deepens our character. It’s not about getting through life untouched, it’s about becoming stronger and softer all at once.

đź’¬ Nelson Mandela once said, â€śDo not judge me by my success, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again.”
That’s resiliency—measured not by the shine of our successes but by the courage it takes to rise after the fall.

The Personal Side of Resiliency

A few months ago, I found myself in a season of deep transition. I was leaving a music teaching job that I truly loved—one that had filled me with joy and purpose. At the same time, we were moving our girls into two brand-new schools. On paper, it was the right decision for our family. In my heart, it felt like loss piled on top of change.

I remember sitting in my car after the last day of teaching, tears streaming down my face. I was grieving a part of myself, while also worrying about how my girls would adjust. Would they make friends? Would they feel safe and happy? Would I ever find work that I loved as much as teaching music?

It was overwhelming. But here’s what resiliency looked like in that moment—it wasn’t about having all the answers. It was about choosing to trust that even though the road ahead was uncertain, we would find our footing. It was reminding myself that my girls are stronger than I give them credit for, and so am I.

Looking back now, I can see how that season stretched us. It was uncomfortable, yes, but it also grew our family’s courage and deepened our ability to adapt. Leaving that job and walking through those school transitions didn’t break us—it shaped us. It reminded me that resiliency is built in the quiet, everyday choices to keep showing up with hope.

Why Resiliency Matters

Resiliency shapes every part of who we are:

  • Confidence: Every time we rise again, we prove to ourselves we can.
  • Relationships: We learn the gift of leaning on others and letting them lean on us.
  • Perspective: We discover that setbacks don’t define us—they refine us.
  • Hope: We realize the darkest nights often lead to the brightest mornings.

Building Resiliency in Your Everyday Life

The good news? Resiliency isn’t something you’re either born with or without—it’s a skill you can strengthen over time.

  • Shift Your Perspective: Instead of asking “Why me?”, ask “What can this teach me?”
  • Practice Self-Compassion: Be gentle with yourself. Healing takes time.
  • Stay Connected: We weren’t made to do life alone—community makes us stronger.
  • Focus on What You Can Control: Release what isn’t yours to carry.
  • Celebrate Small Steps: Every forward movement, no matter how small, is worth honoring.

Closing Encouragement

Here’s what I want you to remember: you are already more resilient than you know. You’ve made it through every hard day so far—and that’s proof of your strength.

Resiliency doesn’t mean you never fall. It means you keep rising. Again and again. And in the rising, you discover the beauty of who you are becoming.

🌸 Friend, you are braver than you think, stronger than you feel, and more resilient than you know.
